The exeptional debut album Growing Up Gay by openly queer rapper Chris Conde contains songs about overcomming drug addiction, internalized homophobia as a christian, and self-acceptance. All songs are incarnations of his personalities. The album makes clear that the unity and coherence that we like to ascribe to ourselves under the concept of identity or personality, is very useful as long as it's not undermined. If it is affected, than Growing Up Gay resonates to an undeniable reality of multiple selves.

Cherryade are named after a carbonated soft drink that Ella and Alex mixed with vodka before nights out together. They write their best songs when they’re both angry about something and they first used music as an outlet to rant about how much they hated being at a strict Catholic high School, and to write about things they couldn’t talk about. And although they make pop songs, they still want to have a layer of meaning and depth about them. Pop with an attitude! The song Sick! is a recommendation to treat nasty situations with humor.

The new and most ambitious album of Occult Character: The songs Remain the Stains contains 27 songs and 62 minutes of naive electro-oddities. Occult Character prefers the term "Naïve Music" for what he does. It's not quite the same as anti-folk music, which is music that mocks the earnestness of 60s folk. Naive music allows for both sarcasm and earnestness, and implies that, unlike an outsider artist, Occult Character is aware of how professional music is made, he’s just not sophisticated enough nor does he have the tools to do it that way.

Racquel Jones interweaves hip hop, punk rock, industrial and dub. On her latest album IgnoRant she gives a voice to anyone who has ever been judged unprepared. The song SacriLege is a blatant denouncement of religion, specifically Catholicism and what it represents for black people whose history was intercepted by slavery. Racquel says about this in an interview: “For my people, religion / Christianity was used as a tool of oppression and control, while the heritage of our spiritual identity was erased. It is important for me to begin the discussion about the damages religion has done to us as a people through the programming of our ancestors during slavery and beyond; and strides we need to take to heal, unlearn, relearn, correct and salvage what is left of our true identity, and teach it to our kids.” Well, isn’t that heartwarming. And it makes you think, it’s very convenient to have as an oppressor a divine book that says, and I quote 1 Peter 2:18 - Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. (Those are the harsh ones.) So, this is what it comes down to: By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you slave, So obey!

3xOJ is a DJ and producer from Morocco. I asked him in an email about free speech in Morocco and freedom of artists. He wrote back that free speech is living in a dark period and some do compare this period with Hassan II in terms of how the state is controlling and censuring public figures. A new prime minister that stands close to the king was just elected and right now no one can tell how it’s gonna change. If you want to know more of the content of the song "Stork", you can find the clip with English subtitles on Youtube. It’s a beautiful, intense clip that starts with a motorcycle that has “this machine kills fascists” written on it. The music of 3xOJ has a decolonial approach to music history and theory. This has brought him in contact with a wide range of styles and influences that he learned to weave together.

The well-crafted unpopular music of Santa Sprees gives you more than a funny feeling. The awkwardness is so brilliant that it becomes its own kind of grace. It's a disruptive force that convincingly reveals what music is about in a utopian way, experiencing the rules for composing, song structures, and harmony from a distance. Their craftsmanship is the opposite of boredom as often experienced in popular music and embraces a kind of freedom. Besides that, their music makes me itchy in the right places.

Legless Trials are the powers combined of Andy Goz from Salem Trials and Matt Nauseous from The Legless Crabs. The dry narrative over the basslines with that freaky guitar gives me that itchy feeling of excitement. The anarchy drips heavily of every second of the five songs, giving me the idea of being untouchable or indifferent to the shit people can come up with. This music can be used as a weapon! When you listen to Legless Trials, people just know not to mess with you.

Twisted Ankle is Nye Bevan’s favorite rock group. They represent the absurdity of life and modern society with music and live shows that toe the line between comedy and sincerity. I also recommend them for Team Building Events and Bumbahole Boris appearances. We mailed a bit and they wrote that they’re inspired by Funk to Welsh Industrial Post Punk to Classical Modernism to whatever else they come across. They also made clear that they don’t take themselves too seriously. And I’m a great supporter of everything that isn’t too serious about themselves and doesn’t appear ‘tight’ in a way that can come across as sterile as a lot of music nowadays. Say for yourself, what you hear at echobox radio and Hidden Fruits of Terra, isn’t that way better than the shit you hear on popular radio?

Casual Sexisme is the phenomenon of everyday sexism that may be considered harmless by those who enjoy it, but has the same negative effects on women's well-being as, for example, sexual coercion. So, that’s not a good idea. And this raises the question: who thought men objectify women? Well, according to the best-selling evangelical Every Man's Battle series, it's because of the God-given male genetic sexual makeup. And there is only 1 solution to the sin of the man: proactive women! Do not want to change your man, is the advice in the book, but accept him. And that means that a woman is a kind of methadone fix for the man: she is there to satisfy that lust, as often as he needs it. Men only look elsewhere if their own wives fall short. And if a woman is ill - these are all quotes from the book Every Heart Restored - or has to recover from childbirth, she can always lend a hand. Just because women haven't been given this need by God doesn't mean they shouldn't understand and live up to it. This book presents masturbating in gym parking lots or to the sight of one’s sister-in-law sleeping as normal male behavior. So sorry women - and also Colombian donkeys -  this seems a battle you can’t win.

Do you like a good laugh? A nice drink? Not wanting to pretend to be someone not affected by life? And ready to date someone without the unnecessary difficult stuff? I - am - your - match! We’d be Adam and Eve before their fall in paradise, running around naked, giving animals their names and having conversations with them. I really love the elephant, but not so much the snake. Looking forward to your right swipe!

Love is quite obsessive. When love is not reciprocated, and is not coming from both sides, then we generally speak of stalking. So what does it means when The Country Teasers sing about an easily recognisable religious experience:

“It's only my Saviour I love

And it's nobody else I trust

I wish that he would love me back just once”

Maybe it means that there's a surprise awaiting at the gates of heaven. There’s a chance Peter will say: “Sorry, human child, you can't get in. Didn’t you get the message during your life?” Every Christian hopes that God shows his incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness. But what if Christianity is wrong and the experience of not having received much of this wealth yet, is just a sign of a restraining order?
